What is Verentis?
A plain-language introduction to Verentis — what it is, who it is for, and the handful of words you will see throughout this guide.
If someone has just pointed you to Verentis and you are not yet sure what it actually is, this page is for you. We will keep things simple and avoid jargon — and where we do introduce a new word, we will explain it right away.
Verentis in one sentence
Verentis is a cloud platform for storing your content and running the apps that work with it — with sign-in, teams, and permissions handled for you.
That is intentionally broad, because Verentis is designed to host many different kinds of work. The important idea is that everything lives safely in the cloud, and you decide exactly who can see and do what.
Who Verentis is for
The person who creates an account and sets the direction. Usually the first to sign up.
People you invite to collaborate. You control what each person can do.
Developers and automations that connect to Verentis using keys and services.
The words you will see most
Verentis uses a small set of building blocks. You do not need to memorise these — each one has its own page later — but a quick tour helps everything else make sense.
Accountthe top levelYour organisation's home in Verentis. Everything you own lives inside your account. When you sign up, an account is created for you.
Workspacea working areaA space inside your account where real work happens — think of it like a project or a department. You can have many workspaces.
Usera personSomeone who can sign in. Users can be given different levels of access.
Rolea job titleA named bundle of permissions (for example, Administrator). You assign roles to people instead of setting permissions one by one.
Permissiona single abilityPermission to do one specific thing, such as upload a file. Roles are made up of permissions.
Servicea non-person identityAn identity for software rather than a person — used when another system needs to act on your behalf.
API keya credentialA secret token that lets a script or tool connect to Verentis without a person signing in.

How the pieces fit together
Here is the big picture, from the top down:
You have an account
This is created automatically the first time you sign up. It represents you or your organisation.
Your account contains workspaces
You create one or more workspaces for different projects, teams, or environments.
People and permissions apply at both levels
You can manage users, roles, and credentials for the whole account or for an individual workspace — the screens look the same in both places.
Work happens inside a workspace
Once a workspace exists, you (and the people you invite) open it to upload files, organise content, and run apps.
